Tilda – A Quake style console at a touch!

Now I don’t expect every one here to have played Quake so your first question would be, what is a Quake console? Well in simple terms it is a way to send text commands to the game, you see people like to customise the crap out of Quake and the console helps them by being just a button away ready to process input.

So where does Tilda come in? Well Tilda atemps to immate the behaviour of this Quake Console on linux. And what a fantasic job it does at it.

As you should know I am currently ready game programming at De Montfort where one of the first year study modules is C Programming. Now in our first lecture we were told, explicitly, that C is not a pretty language!!

A tool, or a way of life!?

Many programmers would appear to have a preferred programming language and will fight for that language throughout the interweb forums, making outlandish reasons as to why the language is great and smashing any one that would try and argue against them. Well its all fine saying that a language is great for xyz and that’s all that matters, but in reality there is a whole alphabet of problems programmers face and one language being good at xyz is not enough which is why there is such a huge collection of languages.

Genre of Games

When describing what a game will be like to a friend most of as will, at some point, mention the genre of the game. When you do this the person you’re talking to will instantly get an image in their head of what the game will be like. Unfortunately this can usually lead to disappointment when the person buys the game and finds out that the game doesn’t really fit the genre they were told it was part of.
